Wild Med: Advanced is a one-day, six-hour intensive course designed for individuals with a working medical background who want to apply their knowledge in remote and resource-limited environments. This course serves as a condensed version of Wilderness First Aid, focusing on wilderness-specific assessment, decision-making, and patient management without revisiting foundational medical basics.
Participants will refine their ability to perform systematic patient assessments, manage common wilderness injuries and illnesses, and make sound evacuation decisions when definitive care may be delayed. Topics include musculoskeletal injuries, wound management, environmental emergencies such as heat and cold illness, envenomation, and prolonged care considerations. Emphasis is placed on adapting existing clinical skills to austere settings where equipment, personnel, and transport options may be limited.
This is a fast-paced, scenario-driven course that prioritizes practical application over lecture. Students engage in realistic simulations that challenge them to think critically, improvise when necessary, and lead confidently in dynamic environments.
Wild Med: Advanced is ideal for EMTs, nurses, physicians, physician assistants, and other medically trained professionals seeking to expand their confidence and competence beyond traditional clinical settings. Participants leave with sharpened decision-making skills and a clear framework for delivering effective care when help is not immediately available.
