Wild Med’s Wilderness First Aid is a two-day, immersive certification course designed to prepare outdoor enthusiasts, trip leaders, guides, and medically-minded individuals to confidently assess and manage injuries and illnesses when help may be hours away. Developed using the Wilderness Medicine Education Collaborative’s standards, this course combines focused instruction with realistic, hands-on scenarios to build competence and sound judgment in remote or resource-limited environments.

Participants learn systematic patient assessment, wilderness-specific treatment strategies, and effective evacuation decision-making when EMS response is delayed. Training includes musculoskeletal injuries, wound management, environmental emergencies such as heat and cold illness, altitude-related concerns, and prolonged care considerations — all with an emphasis on improvisation and the practical use of limited supplies. Scenario-based exercises ensure students can apply their knowledge under pressure, not just understand it conceptually.

Instruction takes place in both indoor and outdoor settings and prioritizes hands-on skill development so techniques are retained and usable. Upon successful completion, participants earn Wilderness First Aid certification reflecting their ability to recognize, stabilize, treat, and make informed evacuation decisions in wilderness settings. This course equips individuals with the confidence and practical framework needed to respond effectively when professional care is not immediately available.
